Re: WiDi beef - why is this such a hassle, Intel?

thanks. i'm well aware of all of that. my system complies x eleventy billion. i have tried every possible combination of software installation known to man. it still tells me no matter what that my video hardware is not compatible and that my graphics driver can't find or load necessary components. i've already gone over this several months ago though.

nobody at Intel or Dell can tell me what specifically makes a WiDi-equipped Inspiron 17R SE different from a non-WiDi equipped machine. whilst researching this for months and months, i found on the Lenovo forums (of all places) that there might be a problem with integrated graphics not being able to be called upon with the video card (Nvidia GeForce GT 650M) even though it supposedly has Optimus switching capability.

I even tried installing latest drivers but still am experiencing the same problem... Any permanent solution to this???

Re: SATA/SAS capable controller RSTe pass-through mode in Linux

I believe there are some misunderstandings here.

The onboard SAS/SATA capable controller (or SCU, SAS Controller Unit) is either in RSTe mode or ESRT2 mode. There is no AHCI mode for SCU ports.

RSTe mode does support pass-through, which means if you have a drive connected and you don't have any RAID configurations, OS can see the drive directly. While ESRT2 doesn't support pass through, which means if you don't configure a drive as RAID volume, the OS won't be able to see it.

For OS to see a pass through drive under RSTe mode, RSTe driver is still needed. We don't have any RSTe driver for Linux, but as mentioned in the Intel® Rapid Storage Technology enterprise (Intel® RSTe) for Linux OS document:

SCU is the Intel® Serial Attached SCSI Controller Unit that is part of the C600 family Platform Controller Hub. The Linux SCU driver (isci) has been upstreamed to the Linux kernel since kernel version v3.0. However, the latest Linux kernel is always recommended to get the latest bug fixes and features.

So you may want to check your kernel version. You can also install Windows on RSTe to confirm whether the issue is caused by drive firmware.

New NUC will not start

I just bought an Intel NUC DC53427HYE, equipped with a Crucial 128GB M4 SSD3 and 2*4GB Crucial DDR3-1600 SODIMM 1.35V 204 PIN (as recommended by Crucial).

However, the unit won't start. When I press the power button, the little LED next to it lights up briefly and then goes off. The power button itself blinks three times, pauses a couple of seconds, blinks three times and then the unit switches off itself. This happens every time. There is no sign of activity on the monitor. I can't get to the BIOS. What can I do?

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. I believe I got my answers now.

First you need to configure RAID and load driver during OS installation. Since you'll install Linux, configure the SCUs in ESRT2 mode in BIOS, since RSTe is not yet supported under Red Hat Linux.

If you need help configuring RAID, see Demo: How to configure ESRT2 RAID using the BIOS console

Once RAID is configured, you can install OS. It's recommended to load the latest ESRT2 driver. Follow the steps in readme strictly for a successful installation.

Good day, i have the same problem with 82574L,loosing network connection , and I have a little descicion of this issue. I took a little script   :

cmdow @ /HID

:ping

set i=0

:noping

If %i%==5 (

echo %date% - %time%:Reconect>>auto.log

c:\windows\System32\devcon.exe disable PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_10D3&SUBSYS_00008086&REV_00

timeout /t 5

c:\windows\System32\devcon.exe enable PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_10D3&SUBSYS_00008086&REV_00

timeout /t 90

goto :ping)

Ping -n 1 -w 1000 192.168.5.2|Find "TTL=">nul

If %ErrorLevel%==0 (

goto :ping

) Else (

echo %date% - %time%:%i% ERROR>>auto.log

Ping -n 1 -w 1000 192.168.5.3|Find "TTL=">nul

If %ErrorLevel%==0 (

echo %date% - %time%:Error Lost>>auto.log

goto :ping

) Else (

set /A i=i+1

goto :noping)

)

it is starting with cmdow.exe and pinging two devices in our "problem " network,and if two of them are unreachable , devcon.exe utility restarts the port of the network card  by device ID in device manager (PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_10D3&SUBSYS_00008086&REV_00 in my case) devcon.exe and cmdow.exe,you can download from internet and also read about them any information . I have 16 servers with this problem =( and this script is helping me a little.

after spending two days "chatting" with Asus techs who insisted I return my machine to its initial condition Or send it in for an RMA, I downloaded the last UX31a intel drivers and my machine has been running fine for the last four days. I haven't run windows update in a while, so I may be speaking too soon.

You will lose the extra 1TB if you add the new 4TB disk to existing array. Or you can create another VD using the new disk to use up all the capacity.

Re: Problem opening Intel HD Graphics Control Panel

Hi kevin,

the problem seems to be that the control panel simply does not show if the monitor is not directly connected to the mainboard graphics port.

See this conversation I had on a different board:

Intel HD 4600 Problem - techPowerUp! Forums

I was able to access the control panel after going through those steps. I would suggest to put a proper message into the control panel rather than have it disappear immediately again,

Cheers

Re: problem with HDMI and Intel HD Graphics 4000

I just got a E6430s with a mini-hdmi port.   It has HD4000 graphics.  It will detect my TV but it will not display to it.  I have tried several different cables and have tried the latest drivers.   I have another Computer with AMD Radeon Graphics that has no problem displaying to it.  I have used computers at work with Intel's integrated HD graphics but HD3000.  They will connect to HDMI but still it is a major pain in the **** compared to AMD's Radeon.  Obviously intel has major issues interfacing with HDMI ports.  I don't see why it's taking them so long to get it fixed.

I have a 6300 and I can tell you guys that I have the exact same issue... I've been trying everything, including the new 16.1 driver but it's hopeless so far...

Hello ,,,

With the upcoming release of the new Ivy Bridge-E 4960X processor, will there be a bios update for LGA2011 motherboards, and specifically the DX79SI ?

Thanks

I would have expected that someone more knowledgeable than me would answer.

After some long digging, I found the solution. Windows 7 reads the information in question out of so called ACPI tables, provided by the BIOS. It then uses them according to its internal policies, but you can change it.

From a cmd.exe with Admin priviliges, do:

powercfg -attributes SUB_PROCESSOR 4d2b0152-7d5c-498b-88e2-34345392a2c5 -ATTRIB_HIDE

After this you suddenly will find a new option in Energy Management under Processor Energy Managment. It will allow you to change the interval the need for a switch up or down is evaluated. On my machine the default was 30 milliseconds. I changed it to 100 milliseconds and voila: I see the machine switch up less often. Before, even on an "idle" system, it switched up from time to time because of some background processes.
